I started Tribal Fest with a workshop from Karim Nagi. LeeAnn leant me her tiny drum. Everybody else had really swanky drums, so I was a bit worried...but Karim actually told me that I was doing really good, and that since I could make decent sounds with that drum, I'd be pretty decent with a real drum. Considering that I've never touched a drum before, I feel like I did pretty good. By the end of the workshop, I was remembering rythms better and keeping up a bit better. I would definitely classify myself in the 'awful' category, but I also think it's something I could be decent at with practice.
Ariellah's workshop was also very helpful. She mostly talked about having more drama and theater in belly dance. She went into detail about ways we could be more expressive and how we could project that to the nosebleed section.
Tomorrow, Colleena!!
